Mrs. Utako Saito Taylor, 86, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 11:00 PM Saturday November 2, 2019 at home.

She was born May 20, 1933 in Tokyo, Japan the daughter of Yoshitaro and Saki Miyata Saito. She married Lloyd H. Taylor on August 18, 1954 in Japan.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Angie) Taylor and Sabrena Taylor both of Galesburg, Joan (Ahmed) Majid of Portland, Oregon, Kenneth Taylor of Galesburg, Jeffery (Jessica) Taylor of Elk Grove, California, Wanda (Terry) Mason of Norman, Oklahoma, Thomas (Daphne) Taylor of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Brenda Taylor of Muscatine, Iowa; 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her 13 siblings.   

Utako worked as a professional tailor for many years at Schubach’s and Joe the Tailor’s until her retirement in 1997. Utako will be remembered for her humbled disposition; she was a strong but quiet woman, and her silence spoke louder than words. While she was not religious, Utako was a godly woman who believed in living by example. Her family will continue to honor her wishes and continue her legacy.

Cremation will be accorded. Private family services will be held at a later date. For Utako’s love of cats, memorials may be given to the Knox County Humane Society. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel has been entrusted with final arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
