Otis L. Cowan, Sr, formerly of Galesburg, passed away June 14th, 2020, at home in Florence, MS, at the age of 102.


He was born March 29, 1918, in Conway, AR, to LeRoy and Annie (Bunting) Cowan. His parents preceded him in death.


He married Treopia Fortune on May 21, 1941. She passed away August 22,1999. He later married Mentoria Smith, she passed away, Evelyn Piggee, she passed away. He married Norma Palmer of Florence, MS, she survives. He is also survived by one brother, Frederick R. (Lenora) Cowan of Galesburg; three children, Otis Jr (Carlotta) Cowan, Santa Cruz, CA; Elvria (Wendel) Hunigan, Galesburg; Bernie Cowan, Galesburg; one brother, Frederick (Lenora) Cowan, Galesburg; seven grandchildren; Michelle Brown, Leander, TX; Collette (Peter) Mungi, Santa Cruz, CA; Kimberly C Jackson, Denver, CO; Jeffery Cowan, Dallas, TX; James Hunigan (Marisol Rosario), East Moline, IL; Michael (Carla) Hunigan, Des Peres, MO; Christopher Otis (Felicia) Hunigan, Bolingbrook, IL., nine great-grandchildren; Jazmen Cowan, Denver, CO; Jaicee Cowan, Janai Cowan, and Jeff Cowan, Jr all of Yukon, OK; Brittany (Jordan) Barrientos, Aurora, CO; Diana Hunigan and Ellen Hunigan, Des Peres, MO; Christopher and Chase Hunigan, Bolingbrook, IL; one great-great-granddaughter, Arely Barrientos; and one great-great-grandson Ryan Tyler. Also surviving are multiple generations of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Otis belonged to several churches where he served on each of the Deacons Boards, lastly he was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, Florence, MS. He retired from International Harvester, East Moline, IL.


Cremation was accorded in Brandon, MS. Additional arrangements locally are being handled by Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Due to COVID-19, private graveside services will be held.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
