ICS has requested a vacation of the 200 block of West Archer. The school is exploring the possible construction of a gymnasium in an adjacent parcel. The school currently owns both sides of the street and would like to build the gym on the Northside of Archer Avenue with a hallway connecting the facility on the Southside of Archer. At the recent City Council meeting, a citizen spoke in opposition to the Archer Avenue road closure request by bringing forth alternative options that may be available to the school including a pedestrian sky bridge and traffic control devices. Mayor Rod Davies lays out the current construction plan:
“Given the changes in the design and some insurances of they acquired some more property, provided some additional green space, moved their current park to a different location so that they could have spots for 75 cars in one spot and then they had places for 9 or 10 in another location. I think they were listening to residents and their concerns and trying to move traffic off of B Street and move it over to the other side of the school. They did address that. They put in a circular drive so school busses won’t have to be on B Street at all. They can come enter off of A Street, drop students or participants there right at the front door, which will be on the east side of the new gym facility and it looks like they did make an effort and eliminated a couple of driveway spots onto B Street trying to minimize access and parking and everything related there to try and address some of the neighbors concerns.”
A motion was made to vacate the 200 block of West Archer and the motion was approved by City Council.
