Richard “Dick” Merl Hahn, Sr., 83, of rural Wataga and formerly of Galesburg and Abingdon, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born August 4, 1938 in Trivoli, the son of Merle and Inda (Haskins) Hahn. He married Eleanor Ball on March 2, 1955 in Canton.
Dick is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Eleanor; his children, Richard “Rick” M. (Jean) Hahn, Jr. of Galesburg, John (Suzi) Hahn of Roscoe, Rhonda (John) Long of Abingdon, Kelly (Shawn) Cantwell of Galesburg and Eric (Kim) Hahn of Eureka; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ed (Mary) Hahn of Live Oaks, Florida; his sister, Joyce (Gene) George of Live Oaks, Florida; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter-in-law, Nikki Hahn, two sisters, Evelyn Davis and Alice Myers, and three brothers, Hubert Hahn, Raymond “Jack” Hahn, and Dean Hahn.
Dick graduated from Spoon River Valley High School. He later worked and retired from the Admiral/Maytag Factory in Galesburg after 39 years of service. He was a member of the New Harvest Church in Abingdon. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and enjoyed watching them play. He also enjoyed fishing, playing fast pitch softball in his younger days, the work of carpentry, playing card games with family and friends, and watching his grandkids play in sports and other activities.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, private services will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Paul Bickel will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. There will be no visitation. The family will plan a public celebration of Dick’s life at a later date.
