Edward C. White, 78, of Galesburg, died at 2:02 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022, following a short illness.

He was born April 18, 1944, in Macomb, the son of L. Clark and Vera M. (Randall) White.  He married Marty Goshert on August 16, 2008, at their home.

He is survived by his wife Marty; two step-daughters, Stephanie (Komla Penty) Arnold and Kathryn Arnold; three grandchildren, Kekeli Penty, Dzifa (Victor Nyakundi) Penty, and Kofi (Cynthia Danu) Penty; a great-grandson, Evan Nyakundi; a sister, Connie Rucker; two nieces, Shelley (Rob) Burn and Stacey Rucker; a great-niece, Lauren Burn; and a great-nephew, Logan Burn.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Kwami Penty.

Ed was raised and educated in Galesburg, where he graduated from Galesburg High School in 1962.  Ed excelled at sports from an early age, being a Little League All Star and continuing to be a talented varsity basketball player. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Illinois University.  His career in education spanned being a teacher, head basketball coach, and athletic director at Rockridge High School, where the 1974 basketball team had a 29-2 record.

Ed was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg.  He enjoyed all sports and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan.  He loved to play poker.

Cremation will be accorded.  A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Rev. Carrie Carnes will officiate.  A time for coffee and fellowship will follow the service at the church.  Memorial contributions in Ed’s name may be made to Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth or Trinity Lutheran Church.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg is honored to serve the family.  Online condolences may be left on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
