A. Elaine Smith, 89, formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 5:36 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Resthave Home of Whiteside County in Morrison, Illinois.
She was born July 22, 1933 in Galesburg, the daughter of Ernest W. and Maefra Mae (Simpson) Larsen. She married Frederick “Fred” H. Smith on April 3, 1955 at the Abingdon Christian Church. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Richard (Dolorise) Larsen and one nephew, Jon Larsen.
Elaine is survived by one son, Dan (Tami) Smith of Sterling, Illinois; two grandsons, Shae (Donna) Smith of Rock Falls and Seth (Courtney) Smith of Chadwick; six great-grandchildren, Dawson Smith, Bryson Smith, Christian Smith, Thea Smith, Kynnedi Smith and Kambri Smith; one brother, Roger (Mary Lou) Larsen of Bloomington; one sister, Susan (Gerald) Orillion of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and nieces and nephews and their families.
She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1951. She was a homemaker and helped her husband Fred, farm east of Abingdon, until he retired in 1996. She was an active and faithful member of the Abingdon Christian Church, before moving closer to her son. Elaine and Fred were proud to be Americans. They decorated Route 41 thru Abingdon with U.S. Flags for many years to commemorate special days. She enjoyed gardening, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Pastor Linda Mowrer will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
