Farmers with applicator licenses in the state of Illinois have to take an applicator license test through the Illinois Department of Agriculture every three years. Kevin Johnson, president of the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association shares that one change the organization hopes to see this spring session is this change with continuing education.
“What we are looking to do is that you could still do that going into the future, but we’re also trying to push legislation that you have an option. You must take your test the first time no matter what, but after that, can take continuous education classes approved by the Illinois Department of Ag, to keep up your license long term,” says Johnson. “There’s been discussions of maybe taking five hours of continuous education classes to keep that license up.”
Johnson adds that this would help bring applicators more education opportunities.
