Monmouth College Track and Field posted another phenomenal week at Grinnell College. The Fighting Scots had seven 1st place finishes in the Dick Young Classic on Saturday. Maddie Boley finished top-3 in hammer, discus and shotput. Miranda Hursey finished 1st in pole vault on the women’s side. For the Men, Eli Newton won the 1500m, Matt Bright finished 1st in pole vault and Tashawn Ruffin placed 1st in triple jump. The Scots also won the men’s 4×100 and 4×400.
Monmouth College Softball had a grueling week with 3 double headers. The Scots dropped both games of their doubleheader to Grinnell College, 15-10 in game one and game two, 14-2 to start the week. Monmouth looked to get back on track at Ripon College on Saturday, but fell in a close one, 5-4 in game one and fell 10-2 in game two of the doubleheader. The Scots had a quick turnaround heading to Lawrence University for a Sunday double header. In game one the Scots scored first, putting one on the board in the top of the 5th but Lawrence answered with 2 in the bottom of the frame. Monmouth would be unable to scoot across another run dropping this one 1-2. Game two, the Fighting Scots would only give up 3 runs but are only able to get one across the plate themselves, losing 3-1. The Fighting Scots are now (4-24) and (0-6) in Midwest Conference play.
Monmouth Baseball started their week in Bloomington facing off against Illinois Wesleyan. The Scots fall in this 13-3. Monmouth would get back in action this past weekend with a 3 game series against Knox. The Fighting Scots would jump on the Prairie Fire early, taking game one, 18-3. Knox returned the favor in game 2 besting the Scots, 18-8. In the rubber match on Sunday, Raul Guillermo blasted two homeruns for the Fighting Scots but they fall just short, losing 10-9. Monmouth loses the series for the first time since 2017. The Fighting Scots fall to (10-17) on the season and (5-6) in Midwest Conference play. Monmouth currently holds 6th place in the Midwest Conference, the Scots need to be in the top 4 at season’s end to make the postseason.
Monmouth College Golf had two meets this past week as well, Sports Information Director Nathan Baliva recaps the Scot’s week.
Monmouth College Golf will have this week off from competition.
The Fighting Scot’s Track and Field team will get back in action this week traveling to Augustana to take part in the Meet of Champions Thursday and Friday.
Monmouth Baseball will travel to Cornell for a game on Friday, then the Fighting Scots will be back at home Saturday to host Cornell for a double header.
Monmouth College Softball will host two double headers this week. Friday, the Scots will have Illinois College and Saturday, Beloit College.
