As part of the North Wastewater plant restoration, the 60-year old existing Smithfield force main which runs from the north pre-treatment facility to Smithfield will be replaced. The project recently went out to bid, and seven contractors submitted proposals. The lowest bid was Legacy Corporation from the Quad City Area for a total of $478,880.00 – a number that City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher was happy to see.
“We had originally estimated that this might cost as much as $750,000, so we were really pleased. We got good pricing on this project,” Steinbrecher said.
Woodard and Curran engineers conducted an extensive review to support that Legacy Corporation is the lowest responsible and eligible bidder for the force main project. The project is expected to be completed before crops are planted this coming year.
