Tri-County Cattlemen Prepping for Annual Banquet

The Tri-County Cattlemen’s Association has an exciting event planned for the beginning of February. On Feb. 3 starting at 5 p.m., the Cattlemen will have their annual Trade Show and Banquet Dinner at the Grand Ballroom at Western Illinois University. Vice President of the Association Thad Tharp shared some changes that will be happening at this year’s event:

“We typically have a comedian for entertainment, and we will again this year. We’re going to shorten him up just a little bit. At the end of the night, after the auction – we’ll have a live auction for fundraising – and after that, we will have dueling pianos,” Tharp said. “We just decided we paid rent on that hall until midnight, so we might as well use it. We have Felix and Fingers Dueling Pianos coming in from up by the Chicagoland area, and they’re going to entertain us. And they’ll help with fundraising too as the night goes on.”

Last year’s banquet boasted a total of 661 plates served. Tickets for the event are $30.

Tharp also wanted to remind area seniors involved in agriculture to take advantage of the Tri-County Cattlemen’s Scholarship. He talked about the requirements for applying for said scholarship:

“You’ve got to be involved in an ag class, FFA, or 4H, have to have a written teacher’s recommendation letter, write a short essay – nothing out of the normal for a scholarship. We do have money that we definitely want to give to kids going into an agricultural related field,” he said.

The scholarship is given to six area Warren, Henderson, or McDonough county seniors each year. For more information, check out the Association’s website at tricountycattlemen.com.
