Local Student Talks About TRIO

Share

Local students are already starting to benefit from the educational program, TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science.

Brooklyn Ochi, local upcoming high school senior, is an intern under Keeley Egelhof, a local Conservation Technician. Ms. Ochi was given this opportunity through this program, which benefits high school students in our local area.

Brooklyn helps Keeley with various projects around the office, and has been involved in them for the summer of 2019.

When asked to speak more on the program she is a part of, Brooklyn said:

“Well I am in this program called TRIO Upward Bound Math-Science, which is a government funded program through Carl Sandburg College that helps students stay in school and go to college when they might not get the opportunity to. Some of the guidelines are income based, first generation, meaning their parents can’t have a bachelor’s degree.”

Because of her experience with local agriculture, Brooklyn plans to go to college for Agricultural Sciences at Iowa State after finishing at Monmouth-Roseville High School.
