GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team moved up a spot to No. 17 in this week’s NJCAA Division II rankings, released Monday afternoon.
The Chargers (28-8 overall, 7-1 Arrowhead Conference) made their initial appearance in the rankings last week at No. 18 and went 3-0 since then, picking up sweeps against Spoon River, St. Ambrose JV and Kishwaukee.
Sandburg is tied with Sauk Valley — ranked 20th this week — for first place in the Arrowhead Conference with two matches left in the league schedule. The Chargers host Illinois Valley at 6 p.m. tonight for Sophomore Night, then wrap up their Arrowhead slate Oct. 29 at Black Hawk. A pair of victories would ensure Sandburg’s eighth conference title and first back-to-back Arrowhead championships since 1986-87. The Chargers have won 14 of their last 16 matches overall.
