Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 8th, 2019:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior wrestler, Kevin Bikopo. Kevin has gotten his season off to a great start. He earned pins in both his second and third matches of the year, as the Titans split a tri-meet with Dunlap and Farmington. Kevin looks to dominate the 152 pound weight class this winter.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Declan Flynn. Declan was the leading scorer for the Red Storm in two of their three games last week. In those three contests, he averaged 17 points. He scored 22 in a close loss to Southeastern and 18 in a win over ROWVA/Williamsfield.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Jackson Krieger. Jackson was the high point scorer in the Heat’s win over Riverdale on the final night of the ROWVA/Williamsfield Tournament. He was nearly automatic from the free throw line, going 9-for-12. Most importantly, he was 5-for-6 when it counted most in the 4th quarter.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Bailey Dickerson. Bailey scored only six points against Farmington in a Prairieland Conference North Division game. But three of those points were integral in her team’s win. Bailey drilled a 3-pointer with 2 seconds remaining for the winning points in a 46-45 win over the Farmers.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior girls basketball player, Riley Jenkins. Riley played maybe her best all-around game of the season so far, in a Western Big Six Conference win over United Township. She recorded a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds in her team’s 63-44 victory.
