Illinois 17th District U.S. Representative Cheri Bustos toured Head Start in Monmouth on Tuesday. Bustos talked about the Early Child Education and what Head Start means to her.
“This is a program that’s been around for 50 plus years. And the whole idea is that you get kids ready to start kindergarten. And, many of the families are at risk families, and if there is something that is a great investment in our resources, it’s making sure that kids get off to a good start. There’s a reason Head Start has been around for a half of century now. Because it works. I’m just very, very proud that I can play a role from a federal funding prospective and making sure that we continue to fund a program like Head Start.”
Head Start director Mary Reed says they have Head Start locations in Monmouth, Abingdon, Knoxville, Oquawka and Galesburg. The Head Start learning program is for children birth to 5.
