Combating Farm Stress is the Focus of Mental Health Month

Share

This May during #MentalHealthMonth, the American Soybean Association (ASA), state soybean affiliates and the United Soybean Board (USB) are participating in a joint communications campaign to combat #FarmStress and offer #SoyHelp in the way of resources for seeking professional help, tools and tips for managing stress, and personal stories from those who have experienced stressors that arise from farming.

Each Tuesday, we have available an editorial from a farmer or farmer family member sharing their personal experiences with farm stress. This week’s editorial is from farmer and farmer widow Theresia Gillie. Her husband Keith died by suicide three years ago, and she shares here what it has been like for her, how people can seek help, and why farmers are so important.

Please consider including these touching, true accounts in your publications, and thank you to those who have already shared Bob Worth’s story on depression. The feedback on Bob’s candid article has been very positive.

More details on this campaign and the resources available are on the soygrowers.com homepage or by clicking here: #SoyHelp campaign. Additional photos also available.
