The City of Monmouth is experiencing a decline in revenue according to City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher:
“We had projected about a 25% decline in our state tax revenue, which would include our income tax, state sales tax, and particularly our own 2% tax. We are seeing significant drops in those areas. The quarter has not finished yet for the hotel/motel tax, but it looks like that will be much more significant decline in revenues than what we had originally projected. We are seeing declines and we have had to use reserve funds to help meet payroll,” Steinbrecher states.
Steinbrecher says the City of Monmouth’s public safety pension costs are also a challenge.
