Smithfield continues to take action steps to ensure the safety of their employees through the COVID-19 pandemic according to the City of Monmouth’s Communication Director, Ken Helms.

“Smithfield Foods have been doing a number of different improvements to really prioritize their workers’ safety during the COVID-19 that is going around. One of the things they have done is really interesting. They have started to build three 30’ x 50’ structures that sit outside the plant. Their entire purpose for being is when somebody comes in after they leave their car and go through the guard station, then they go into these three different buildings where they do the screening for COVID symptoms and then they also have lockers for personal storage so they can do everything there. It acts as a buffer before they go in the main plant in case any of them were displaying COVID symptoms. They are also doing on-site testing with their private company every day there in production,” Helms reports.
