The Macomb Bomber High School girls golf team took part in the IHSA Class 1A sectional tournament in Rock Falls on Tuesday. They were trying to match their Bomber boys golf counterparts and bring home a sectional championship plaque. The Macomb boys claimed the sectional title on Monday in Peoria. The Bomber girls just about pulled it off, tying for second place as a team. Macomb shot a team score of 347, tying with Peoria Notre Dame and falling three shots short of Boylan Catholic. Peoria Notre Dame had beaten Macomb by two strokes for the regional title last week. Individually, Macomb junior Lily Vardaman shot a career-low 75 to tie Eva Greenberg for the low score after 18 holes. Vardaman lost a 1-hole sudden death playoff to Greenberg of Boylan Catholic. Also getting a top-10 finish was Macomb senior Laine Torrance in 6th with a 79.

West Central High School freshman Olivia Hines carded an 89 for 22nd place. Hines’ teammate sophomore Elaina Fisher shot a 93 for 29th place. United senior Paige McKeown shot a 104 to finish in a tie for 51st.
