Roman Paul Wegrzyn Jr., 69, of Peoria, died at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2020, in the Alzheimer’s Unit at Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center.

He was born June 11, 1951, in Chicago, the son of Roman and Phyllis Wegrzyn.  He married Karla L. Franson on September 26, 1981, at First Lutheran Church in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of over 39 years, Karla of Peoria; a son, Brant Wegrzyn of Peoria; a daughter, Lesly (Joseph) Baumgartner of St. Louis, Missouri; siblings, Claudia (Bob) Saylors of Glencoe, Illinois, Carol (Mike) Buckley of Chicago, Cindy (Brian) Burghard of Oak Forrest, Illinois, Connie Wegrzyn and John Wegrzyn, both of Palos Hills, Illinois, and Phil Wegrzyn of Streamwood, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roman graduated from Quigley South Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois in 1969.  He graduated from Bradley University in Peoria in 1973 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music.  Roman owned and operated Roman’s Piano Service from 1978 to 2014.  He was able to tune pianos by ear and would give a little concert after each tuning.  Roman and Karla were members of various bands in the Central Illinois area, most recently with Spellbound.

Roman was very active in Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria, where he wrote and composed music for the youth choir.

Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Craig Swenson and Pastor Stephen Barnes officiating.  Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited seating.  Those wishing to attend the funeral “virtually” may watch the live broadcast on the funeral home’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Hinchliff-Pearson-West-Funeral-Directors-and-Cremation-Services-160333664037824.  Burial will be in Henderson Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Senior World Peoria, Salem Lutheran Church of Peoria, or the Alzheimer’s Unit at Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
