Former Illinois Speaker Mike Madigan Resigning House Seat

Share

Mike Madigan is stepping down from the Illinois House. The former speaker submitted his resignation, effective at the end of the month, saying he is leaving office at peace with his decision and proud of the many contributions he has made to the state. Governor JB Pritzker wished him well and was asked by reporters if Madigan leaving is a good thing for state government in light of the recent Com-Ed scandal.

“The innuendo, the accusations that exist that are around things like that, are not good. Those of us that serve in public office, who serve with integrity, you know all of those kinds of accusations and investigations unfortunately reflect poorly on public service.”

Madigan served in the Illinois House for 50 years and was the longest serving house speaker in US history.
