Head Coach Brad Underwood Says Toughest Part Was Saying Goodbye to Seniors as Illini Exit NCAA Tournament

Share

The Illinois men’s basketball team lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. It was a shocking exit for the one seeded Illini to lose to Loyola University. Head Coach Brad Underwood said Loyola “rocked” the Illini in the game – and then the toughest part was saying goodbye to seniors, other players expected to jump to the NBA and seeing the year come to an unexpected end.

“I’m a real softie at heart and when you walk in and you see young people crying, and I get real emotional anyway. I always go there first before I think of the positives and the good. The games over and we will have plenty of time to review that, but I’m with those guys in the locker room and my heart aches for them. I’m truly sad that today was not our day.”

The Illini were looking for their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2005.
