Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb. 27, 2021

Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team held their senior night festivities on Saturday afternoon before their game against ROWVA/Williamsfield. The Titans got off to a slow start, trailing 16-4 with a minute and a half left in the first quarter. They would close the quarter on a 6-0 run and then outscore the Cougars 23-7 in the second period to take a 33-23 lead into the halftime break. Monmouth-Roseville would hold R/W to nine total second half points to get a 59-32 win. Belle Thompson led Monmouth-Roseville with 17 points, while Ryley Huston contributed 14 points. The Titans are now (6-1) overall on the season and will head to Macomb tonight for a game against the Bombers.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls basketball team split a pair of games on Friday and Saturday, losing to Geneseo 54-53 on Friday night and bouncing back to get a win over Moline 55-27 on Saturday. Lauren Livingston led the Streaks in the win over Moline with 18 points and nine rebounds. Galesburg is now tied for first place in the Big Six at (6-2). They are tied for first with Geneseo and Rock Island.

The Galesburg High School boys basketball team dropped both of their games over the weekend. The Silver Streaks lost to Geneseo 74-50 on Friday night and fell to Moline 80-59 on Saturday. Galesburg is now a game behind Rock Island in the conference standings at (6-2).

The Monmouth-Roseville boys basketball team was trying to break a two-game losing streak on Saturday night in their road game at a solid Knoxville ball club. Knoxville would nail 15, three-pointers in the game and win 75-45. Evan Rossell had 18 points to lead Knoxville. Jack Thompson had 23 for Monmouth-Roseville, who are now (2-3) on the season. Knoxvillle improves to (9-1).

The United Red Storm boys basketball team lost to Ridgewood 66-58 on Friday night in Lincoln Trail Conference play to fall into a tie with Wethersfield for the Lincoln Trail Conference. The Red Storm bounced back on Saturday with a 67-42 win at Peoria Heights. Jackson Bergren led United with 14 points.

The Macomb Bomber boys basketball team is still undefeated on the year after beating Lewistown 50-26 on Saturday. The Bombers are (9-0).

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High volleyball teams hosted Knoxville on Saturday. THe 7th grade Titans lost to the Blue Bullets 25-13 25-16. Leading the team in service points for the day were Kaylee Ibarra with 6 points and Brenda Raigoza with 5 points. The 8th grade Titans fell to Knoxville in a tight two set match with scores of 25-22 and 25-21. Brianna Woodard had 9 serving points and 10 digs and 10 kills for Monmouth-Roseville.
