Mr. R. Nathan “Nate” Wells, 48, of Galesburg, Illinois, died from a short battle with cancer, on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:40 a.m. in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Nate was born on January 24, 1973 in Galesburg, son of James “Jim” and Mary V. (Garrett) Wells.

He is survived by his parents, Mary and John Beasley, Sr. of Galesburg; James Wells of Galesburg; his sister, Michelle Wells of Galesburg, his brother, Gabe Wells of Galesburg; two stepsisters, Stephanie (Erich) Mueller of West Branch, Iowa and Lori Kelley of Iowa; stepbrother, John Beasley Jr. of Sierra Vista, Arkansas, his brother from another mother, Mark Ramirez of Florida; his aunts and uncles, Ruth Krause, Michael (Betty Jo) Garrett, Jim Garrett, Carolyn Garrett, Joanie (Norm Koplin) Pacey Garrett, Phil (Monica) Garrett, Michael (Jackie) Wells and MaryAnn Myler; one nephew, Tavian James of Galesburg, and one niece, Kayli Wells of Delong, Illinois. his significant other, Stephanie Brown of Galesburg and his good friends, Bobby and Melissa Stewart. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Darwin and Reha Garrett, Edna and Frank Wells, two uncles, and aunt and a good friend, Michael Rutledge.

Nate attended Costa Catholic School and Galesburg High School. He went on to work in the construction industry. Nate was a concrete finisher for Hein Construction and OP Labor Union. He had also worked at Universal Studios in Florida for 20 years. Nate enjoyed woodworking.

To say Nate was an excellent drummer would be an understatement. He was self-taught and could play any song he heard by ear. Nate was part of multiple bands in the area including, Suckerpunched, Dry, Klusterfunk, Concrete, Yeah Right, Ironic and hosted many jam sessions with friends at the “jam shed”. Nate lived his life to the fullest and will be missed by those who knew him best.

Funeral Service will be 3:00 pm, Friday, May 28, 2021 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating. Visitation will follow services until 7:00 p.m. Those wishing to attend the service “virtually” may do so via the funeral home’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Hinchliff-Pearson-West-Funeral-Directors-and-Cremation-Services-160333664037824.  We ask that those attending services, follow the CDC guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. .  Memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish a memorial fund at a later date.
