Monmouth College Campus will Transform into an Ancient Culture this Classics Day

Share

The 5th Monmouth College Classics Day is slated for this Saturday, October 2nd. Bob Simmons, Associate Professor and Co-Chair of Classics, shares the day allows people to immerse themselves in the ancient world with interactive and educational stations focusing on Greek and Roman cultures, including ancient games, clothing, sports, and virtual reality:

“The classical world is the ancient Mediterranean from Greece and Rome and some of their neighbors. We just have a lot of records left. We have a lot of written records. We have a lot of material records; we have buildings that are still in very good repair. So we take advantage of what we have at our disposal. We have these records and we can recreate these worlds and have a sense of people’s daily lives, the sense of stories that intrigued people, and have a sense of the sorts of historical movements that made things happen. Classics Day is one opportunity for people to become immersed in that sort of world.”

Classics Day will also coincide with FusionFest on the Monmouth College campus with both beginning at 1 pm on the Dunlap Terrace outside the Stockdale Student Center this Saturday.
