Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 31st, 2021:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior volleyball player, Mattie Gillen. Mattie led the Titans with nine digs in a regional match up against Illini West. That number brought her team-leading season total to 292. Mattie also tied for the season lead in aces and was 2nd in kills for the year.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior football player, Abel Wilson. Abel had a great game in his team’s playoff game against Iroquois West. He caught six passes for 188 yards and scored two touchdowns. That brought Abel’s season total to nearly 500 yards and five touchdowns, both tops on the team.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls swimmer and volleyball player, Libby Miller. Libby’s postseason swim preparation is going well. She finished 6th in the 200 yard IM and 6th in the 100 yard butterfly events in a prep meet in Muscatine. Libby was also an important contributor for the Heat volleyball team this season, as well.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior girls swimmer, Tori Robinson. Tori is bringing her high school career to a close with a flourish. She touched the wall in second place in two different events at the Western Big Six Conference championship meet at Rock Island. Tori was second in the 200 yard freestyle race and combined with three teammates to place second in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Clay Slagel. Clay caught the eventual game-winning touchdown pass in the Tornado’s opening round playoff win over Annawan/Wethersfield. His 24 yard touchdown catch in the 4th quarter gave A-town a 14-8 lead, a lead which they would not relinquish. Clay ended with four catches and 57 yards and also had four tackles on defense.
