Macomb Fire Results in 2 Deaths

Police and Fire Investigation- City of Macomb, IL

On Friday, January 21, 2022 at approximately 8:41am, the Macomb Police Department and Macomb Fire Department were dispatched to 1662 E. Wheeler Circle in reference to a structure fire. When Officers arrived, they observed smoke emanating from the residence. Macomb Firefighters and Macomb Police Officers attempted to make contact with the residents, without success.

The Macomb Fire Department made entry to the property and found two occupants (an adult female and infant child) unresponsive. First Responders immediately began administering life-saving measures. The infant was pronounced deceased on scene, after several attempts were made to preserve life. The adult female was transported to the McDonough District Hospital, where life-saving efforts were continued. The adult female was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The scene is currently contained and determined to be safe. The Macomb Police Department respectfully requests for everyone to remain clear from the area, due to an on-going investigation. Please remember the family and their deceased loved ones and remain respectful of their privacy.

The Macomb Police Department is being assisted by the Illinois State Police- Zone 4 Investigations Division, the Illinois State Police- Crime Scene Investigations, The Illinois State Fire Marshall, McDonough County Sheriff’s Office, Galesburg Police Department, Monmouth Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Western Illinois University- Office of Public Safety and resources from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
