One Dead, Two Injured Following Weekend Shooting in Galesburg

(Galesburg, IL)  —  One man is dead and two others are injured after a shooting Saturday in Galesburg.  Police say they were called to the 1500 block of McKnight Street just after 4 a.m. for shots fired with multiple victims.  Police say they have all suspects in custody.  A man and woman were hospitalized for gunshot injuries.  The name of the victim is not being released yet until the family has been notified.

The following further information is being released regarding the shooting incident currently under investigation that occurred at 1517 McKnight in Galesburg on January 22, 2022.Three subjects were shot during this incident: Mercedes B. Jones, age 29, was shot in the chest, and was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s ER and then to St. Francis in Peoria. He is currently being treated at St. Francis for his injuries. Jasmine L. Casey, age 26, was shot in the hand. She was transported to St. Mary’s ER and then transferred to St. Francis in Peoria. She is expected to be released from the hospital shortly. Demetruis D. Gibbs, age 31, was shot in the chest and found deceased at the scene. His family has been notified. An arrest warrant for first degree murder has been issued for Mercedes B. Jones, age 29. He will be taken into custody upon being released from the hospital.
