The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior girls wrestler, Dayanna Ortiz-Mora. Dayanna recently participated in the first-ever official IHSA girls wrestling postseason. The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Aidan Parkins. Aidan has done everything a point guard needs to do this season for his team to be successful. His versatility was on display last week in three more wins for his team. Aidan filled up the stat sheet, averaging six points, five rebounds and three assists a game. He was also a very solid 8-for-10 from the free throw line for the week.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player Brynna Seitz. Brynna’s solid high school basketball career came to an end last week in the Class 1A regional tournament. She didn’t go down easy, scoring 13 points in the her team’s 61-50 loss to Abingdon-Avon in the semifinal. For the season, Brynna was the 2nd leading scorer and 3rd leading rebounder for the Heat.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys diver, Andrew Peterson. Andrew just missed qualifying for the state finals at the United Township sectional meet. His total of 363.8 points was good enough for 2nd place overall. Andrew was less than four points away from moving on to the IHSA State Finals.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Ashley Jones. Ashley’s fantastic career came to an end in the regional championship game last week. Before her year was over, she poured in 28 points in the Tornado’s regional semifinal win over West Central. Ashley ended her career with over 1,000 points scored.
