Harold L. Smith, age 60, of Galesburg, Illinois; passed away on March 20, 2022 at 10:42 pm at his Galesburg residence. Harold was born on February 27, 1962 in Aledo, Illinois and is the son of Lee Arnold and Margaret Ann Dixon Smith. He was raised in Monmouth where he attended local schools and Monmouth High School and graduated with the class of 1983. Harold began work detasseling for Dekalp Seed corn in Monmouth. He later worked at the Delmonte Cannery in Mendota, Illinois and was in production for several years. He then was employed at Walmart in Galesburg unloading and as a stockman, where he worked for 22 years and to the present. Harold loved fishing and hunting and bowling in earlier years. He also loved to shoot pool and played league pool at Harley’s Pub in Galesburg, Illinois. He just loved being outside and the out of doors. 
Harold is survived by his sisters, Sarah Taylor of Monmouth, Illinois and Rosalie Stone of Spring Valley, Illinois. Also surviving him is his brother Terry Smith and Heather of Galesburg, Illinois. There are nine nephews, six nieces, six great nieces, and five great nephews. He is preceded in his death by his grandparents, parents, his sisters husbands, his brother, Russell; and his niece Stephanie. 

A funeral service and burial in Berwick Cemetery is planned on April 2, 2022 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. His family plans visitation and will receive their friends on April 2, 2022 for the hour prior to the funeral servic at the funeral. 10:00 am to 11:00 am.  Interment then will be in the Berwick Cemetery next to his parents.

Mayor Of Galesburg Running for Second Term

The Mayor of Galesburg is running for a second term.  Peter Schwartzman announced he is running for re-election next year.  Schwartzman defeated two other candidates to win a four-year term
