Larry E Ancelet, 79, of rural Galesburg, died at 8:42 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2022, in the home he built, surrounded by his loving wife and daughter.

He was born March 11, 1943, in Galesburg, the son of Raymond F. “Rummy” and Lucille F. (Miller) Ancelet.  He married Deanna L. Sweeney on August 19, 1966, in Peoria.

He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Deanna; two children, Michelle J. (Brett) Bangert of Tampa, Florida and Clint R. (Linda) Ancelet of the state of Kansas; and two grandchildren, Taylor (Talia) Ancelet-Wood and Barrett Ancelet.  His parents precede him in death.

After graduating from Galesburg High School, Larry went on to Western Illinois University, where he graduated from in 1965.  He was a math and chemistry teacher at Wyoming High School for three years.  In 1969, he became a Chemistry Professor at Carl Sandburg College, where he continued his 40-year teaching career before retiring in 2006.

Larry served with the Emergency Police for the City of Galesburg.  He was a collector of marionettes and had also played the violin for the Knox-Galesburg Symphony.  Larry patiently built the family home, digging the foundation, laying the blocks, and handling all of the plumbing and electrical work himself.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Burial will follow at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the South Basco Cemetery in Basco, Illinois.  There will be no visitation.  Online condolences for the family may be left on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
