Thomas E. Burnside, age 82, of St. Louis, Missouri passed away the morning of June 15, 2022 at Mercy Medical Center in Chesterfield, Missouri. “Tom” was born on February 17, 1940 in Rushville, IL and is the son of Henry R. and Frieda Barbara Brown Burnside. Thomas was raised in Rushville, Illinois where he attended local schools and graduated from Rushville High School. He then attended and graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign with a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Thomas married Barbara E. Meyer on June 11, 1961 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Stronghurst, IL and she is surviving. Tom began work for IBM, and worked on the first electric typewriter for them. He then worked in California for Autonetics Avionics Company 1967 until interviewing with the McDonnell Douglas and moving to St. Louis, MO. McDonald Douglas eventually merged with Boeing Aircraft Company where Tom worked for over 40 years before his retirement. Tom loved reading, science fiction, researching, engineering solutions to problems, studying the bible, Cardinal Baseball, St. Louis Blues Hockey, University of Missouri and University of Illinois collegiate sports. He also loved all forms of learning and praising God everyday.  Tom was of the Lutheran Faith and was active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis. His main hobby was his work and employment. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Chesterfield, Missouri, his daughter, Anna Pounds and Ron in Greensburg, PA and their children,  and his son, Mark Burnside in Fort Smith, Arkansas. There are three grandchildren, Lillie and husband Josh Minett of Walla Walla, Washington and Laura Burnside of Walla Walla, Washington,  and Michael Jones. He is preceded in his death by his two sisters, Virginia and Delbertha, and his brother, Ted. 
A funeral service is planned on Wednesday June 22, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Rozetta Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Biggsville Township Cemetery. His family plan a visitation and will receive their friends from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to his service at the church. A memorial fund is being established for Tom’s church St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chesterfield, Missouri. To leave a remembrance or for more information please visit www.turnbullfuneralhomes.com.
