Deena Slagel, 68 of Abingdon, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday October 6, 2022 at 6:06 p.m.

She was born on December 11, 1953 in Galesburg, the daughter of Dale and Freda (Winchel) Oliver.  She married the love of her life Ralph Slagel on June 25, 1972 at the Abingdon Christian Church.

Deena is survived by her loving three sons, Mark (Amber) Slagel, Mike (Robin) Slagel, and Rich (Abby) Slagel all of Abingdon and bonus daughter Jaimy (Chris) Brooks of Knoxville; 5 grandchildren, Taylor (Jacob) Andrews, Riley Slagel, Clay Slagel, Carsen Slagel and Khloe Slagel; 3 step-grandchildren, J.D. (Alex) Patch, Lani (John) German, and Keely Patch; 5 step-great-grandchildren; her only sibling and best friend Donna (Kenny) Colwell; and a brother-in-law, Terry Slagel

She was preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life Ralph, her father-in-law and mother in-law, and a sister-in-law.

Deena lived in the Abingdon area all of her life.  She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1972. Deena was a stay-at-home mother to her boys up until working at the Video Corner and then Masons Variety.  She enjoyed camping and was the #1 fan at her grandchildren’s sporting events. She fiercely loved spending time with her family and friends but especially her grandchildren.  Taylor (her person) and Deena shared what can only be described as a very magical friendship.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel.  Rev. Raymond McLaren will officiate.  Those unable to attend will be able to live stream her service via the funeral home website at  www.h-p-w.com under Deena Slagel obituary or the funeral home Facebook page.  .Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
