Last week, the Illinois Corn Marketing Board was among the 21 state corn associations announcing its participation in the 2023 Heartland Whiskey Competition. This is a biennial competition where local distillers compete for the titles of Best in Show and Best in State. Rodney Weinzierl, Executive Director of the Illinois Corn Marketing Board says that this year, a new award has been added; Top Farm Distiller.

“This is a brand new award,” said Weinzierl. “Essentially, you have to be a farm that also has a distillery and you have to use your product, corn, from the farm to brew whiskey.”

The competition takes place August 1 and 2 in St. Louis, Missouri and the winners will be announced by early September.
