Mrs. Mable May Brown, 92, of Abingdon, Illinois passed away at 12:15 pm Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.

Mable was born June 1, 1931, in Denmark, Iowa the daughter of William Joseph and Helen Louella (Christ) McCulloch. She married Oscar C. Brown on September 4, 1948, in Kahoka, Missouri. After 60 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on March 3, 2008.

Mable is survived by her children, Gloria Thompson of LaHarpe, Illinois, Jeff (Mitzie) Brown of Galesburg and Bruce (Brenda) Brown of Walker, Louisiana; her half sister, Helen Ruth Newell of Iowa; six grandchildren, Carrie Cameron of LaHarpe, Jason (Holli) Brown of Abingdon, Shannon (Amy Neal) Brown of Knoxville, Mark (Celia Carranza) Brown of La Mesa, California, Timothy (Anna) Brown of Killian, Louisiana and Matthew (Carrie) Brown of Watson, Louisiana and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, William and Robert McCulloch, two sisters, Frances Simmons and Mary Lou Ringler, half-brother, Jimmy Mellum.

Mable graduated from high school in Ft. Madison, Iowa in 1948. She worked for several of the restaurants in the Abingdon area as well as Bluebell Manufacturing. Her true love was being able to stay at home with her family and raise her children. Mable was a devoted member of the Abingdon Christian Church. She taught Sunday school for over 20 years. Mable was a proud member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381 Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Cum-Be-One Class. In her later years, Mable enjoyed meeting her friends at Hardees for coffee and gossip.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 pm Wednesday, July 19, 2023. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. Pastor Linda Mowrer will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 pm Wednesday at the chapel. The burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Abingdon Christian Church.
