N. Joan “Joann” Davis, age 61, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 9:45 AM on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. She was born May 2, 1962 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Granger and Peggy Ann (Colley) Venard. Joann attended school in Monmouth and was a graduate of Monmouth High School. She then attained her Associates Degree from ECPI College in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She proudly served her Country in the United States Navy. On April 7, 1991, she married Jeffrey Davis at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. Joann was previously married to Lloyd Gorski.
Joann worked for many years at Canon ITS in their tech support division. Years prior to that, she managed several Domino’s Pizza stores in the Chesapeake area. Joann had a tremendous love for animals. She had several pets, and her favorite was “Rooney the Squirrel”. Rooney met her each morning for fresh vegetables and peanuts from Joann. She enjoyed auctions, treasure hunts with her metal detector, yard sales, and finding unique items. In her early years, she wrote poetry. Joann was also a favorite babysitter to many in the area.
Joann is survived by her husband Jeffery Davis of Monmouth, Illinois, three daughters, Jennifer (Daniel) Sutherland of Virginia Beach, VA, Megan (Anthony Craig) Davis of Portsmouth, VA, and Emily Davis of Monmouth, IL, one son, Christopher Gorski of Hampton Roads, VA, her grandchildren, Dylan, Ava, Ashley, Liliana, Adrianna, and Natalie. She is also survived by one sister, Carolyn Cooper of Springfield, IL and one aunt, Annabelle (Floyd) Ward of Rock Island, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Venard, Jr.
A funeral service will be held for Joann at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans a visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home prior to the service. A memorial fund is being established for Western Illinois Animal Rescue in Monmouth, Illinois. Joann’s family would like to invite friends to a “Toast to Joann” at Thursday, July 27, 2023 at noon, at Market Alley Wines in Monmouth for a casual event.
