Macomb Police and McDonough County Sheriff’s Department wish to inform the public about
tragic event that occurred over the weekend. The incident described in this release is still under
investigation, so details are limited.
On 09/09/23 at about 9:58 PM, McDonough County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a traffic
incident in the City of Macomb. Deputies responded as part of a cooperative effort between
Macomb PD and area law enforcement, due to Mega Reunion weekend.
The traffic incident involved a juvenile falling from a moving vehicle and striking his head. The
juvenile sustained a serious injury as a result of this incident. Other juveniles present called for
assistance and rendered first aid as emergency services raced to the scene.
A juvenile was treated for head trauma and quickly air-lifted to an area hospital. The juvenile
remains in critical condition.
All parties have been fully cooperative with the investigation.
Chief Hamer and Sheriff Petitgout’s hearts are with the affected families. This tragic incident will
affect the lives of our community and our young people. As such, the MAC 185 school district
will have extra staff on hand to assist and counsel students.
