M-R’s Boys’ Soccer Coach Gets 100th Career Win

The Monmouth-Roseville boys soccer team gave coach Zach Statham his 100th career varsity win, defeating Limestone 3-0 Thursday evening at Pattee Field. Several of those victories for Statham, who started coaching M-R’s varsity in 2019, came at East Peoria High School.

The victory was M-R’s fifth consecutive shutout to the season, and forward Ozzy Carmona once again played a part in all the goals. He and Bawi Thang combined on a passing sequence to set up freshman Lian Sang for a shot at the top of the penalty box in the game’s 23rd minute. Sang’s shot bounced down off the crossbar, into Limestone goalie Will Herrmann and into the net to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. Nine minutes later, Carmona provided some insurance with a goal into an empty net from 25 yards out, after he won a race to the ball against Herrmann. The assist on the play went to Beta Jurado.

M-R sealed the outcome with less than five minutes to play, when Carmona scored on a nice through pass from Bruntsh Bolese.

The Titans will be back in action next Thursday at Pattee Fields against Canton.

In the JV game, Limestone scored on a penalty kick in the second half to win 1-0.
