The Monmouth-Roseville Titans football team was back in action on Friday night, on the road this week in Port Byron taking on the Riverdale Rams. Looking for their third win of the season, the Titans would dominate the first half, taking a 48-7 lead before the break and ultimately winning 55-22, and improving to 3-1 overall, and 3-0 in the Three Rivers Conference West Division.

M-R would open the game with the ball after the Rams differed on the opening coin toss. The Titans wasted no time scoring on their first offensive possession, taking just 2 minutes off the clock and scoring on a 50 yard touchdown run from junior running back Payton Thompson (Successful PAT from Avendano, 7-0). On Riverdale’s first offensive drive of the day the Rams would be faced with an early 4th down, a 4th down that senior linebacker Tyler Finnicum would take away, forcing and recovering the fumble at the Riverdale 19 yard line. Monmouth-Roseville would quickly capitalize off the turnover, scoring on a three yard touchdown from Thompson (PAT good, 14-0). The Rams would get bitten by another turnover at midfield, a turnover that the Titans would once again score on, this time from 8 yards out for quarter back Andy Myers’ first touchdown of the game. Monmouth-Roseville would take that 21-0 lead into the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter of play in Port Byron, the Titans would once again score with Thompson, this time through the air on a 31 yard connection from Andy Myers to Thompson, extending the lead to 28-0 after another successful PAT from Nico Avendano. Riverdale’s third turnover of the game would turn into Payton Thompson’s 4th all purpose touchdown of the game, as he intercepted the screen pass and returned it 25 yards for the touchdown and extended M-R’s lead to 34-0 (blocked PAT). The Titans would put up two more scores before the first half break, another touchdown from Thompson, and the first career varsity touchdown for freshman Landon Montroy to push M-R’s lead to 48-0, and force a running clock for the second half of play.

As the clock wound down in the second half, Riverdale got on the board on their first drive of the second half, scoring on an 11 yard TD run from Caen Beckett. Montroy scored his second touchdown of the game for Monmouth-Roseville on the ensuing drive from 58 yards out, pushing the Titan lead to 55-7 after 3 quarters. In the final quarter of play, Riverdale would add two more touchdowns from Gaege Heinsen and Nick Goodson, to bring the score to its final of 55-22 in favor of the Titans. In the stat book for the Titans, Andy Myers would throw for a 31 yard touchdown pass on 3 attempts, while Payton Thompson and Landon Montroy led the way in rushing with 104 and 105 yards respectively. Thompson scored 5 all-purpose touchdowns (3 rushing, 1 receiving, and 1 pick-six), while Montroy and Myers both added scores on the ground as well. Monmouth-Roseville’s next contest is a big one on Friday, September 22nd, a homecoming matchup with the undefeated Morrison Mustangs.
