George E Bednarcik of Galesburg, Illinois passed away on October 15th, 2023 at OSF Richard L Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL after a long battle with cancer.

He is the youngest son of George E. Bednarcik Sr, who passed away in 1998, and Shirley J (Wilkins) Bednarcik, who passed away in 2004, both from Galesburg.

He is survived by his sister Barbara L Bednarcik, Galesburg Illinois and his brother, Jack “Gooch” Bednarcik, Jack’s wife Cindy (Roberts) Bednarcik, and their son Ryan, Noblesville, Indiana.

George was a 2 time Galesburg High School letter winner for baseball (Under Coach Gary Bruington) and basketball (Under Coach Barry Swanson) in 1982, playing both sports with his brother Jack. He loved playing and watching sports, especially baseball. Growing up a Chicago Cubs fan, he was always involved in some sports activity with his neighbors Pat and Mike Davison, and Brian and Brad Theobald, all who lived on Monroe Street.

George worked at Maytag, and for the City of Galesburg’s Park Department. He was also quite the handyman and enjoyed working outside.

Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society in Memory of George Bednarcik (https://donate.cancer.org/?campaign=honormemorialbutton&lang=en) would be greatly appreciated.
