Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 3rd, 2023:

​The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Darrion Smith. Darrion scored a career-high 23 points in a road win against Mercer County. He was 5-for-6 from 3-point range and hauled in seven rebounds. Darrion also pulled down seven boards in home win over Farmington, scoring nine points and handing out three assists, as well.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior girls basketball player, Alexa Anderson. Alexa was a major contributor in a non-conference win over Rockridge. She scored 14 points, going 2-for-4 from behind the 3-point arc. Six of Alexa’s points came in the decisive 4th quarter, as she averaged over 10 points in both Red Storm games last week.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior girls basketball player, Addie Seitz. In two games last week, Addie averaged 12.5 points, 3 rebounds and 4.5 assists. She poured in 14 points in a dominating Lincoln Trail Conference win over Galva. Addie drained a total of seven, 3-pointers between the two contests.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior boys wrestler, Gauge Shipp. Gauge is set to have a great final season of his high school career, as he dominated the competition in his first tournament of the year. He won the 138 pound weight division of the 45th Annual Carson DeJarnatt Invitational in Sterling. Gauge went (3-0) for the day, getting two pins and winning a 6-2 decision in the championship match.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is freshman girls basketball player, Kennedy Quinn. Kennedy has shown the poise of a veteran already this season. In a win over Ridgewood, she filled up the stat sheet, scoring 22 points, hauling down six rebounds, handed out five assists and was perfect from the free throw line. Showing she’s not just a force on the offensive end, she registered five steals, as well.
