High School basketball fans can ring in the first weekend of 2024 with a full afternoon of hoops as the Sandburg Shootout returns Jan. 6 at Carl Sandburg College’s John Lewis Gym.

Following a two-year hiatus because of circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the third edition of the event includes four small-school boys basketball contests, starting at 1 p.m. Matchups for the 2024 Sandburg Shootout are:

• 1 p.m. — Hartsburg-Emden vs. West Central
• 2:30 p.m. — Peoria Quest vs. United
• 4 p.m. — East Dubuque vs. Monmouth-Roseville
• 5:30 p.m. Sherrard vs. Knoxville

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring the Sandburg Shootout back and give a chance to some of our area teams to play here,” Sandburg men’s basketball coach and shootout organizer Ryan Twaddle said. “These are four exciting games, and it gives schools and fans a chance to see a team or matchup they may not normally see in the regular season.”

Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students. All tickets are available at the door the day of the shootout, and admission is good for all four contests.
