Muriel L. Oaks, age 97, of Biggsville, Illinois passed away at 5:20 pm on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois. Muriel was born on July 9, 1926 in Stronghurst and is the daughter of Ervan L. and Emma McPeak Magee. She was raised in Stronghurst, Illinois where she attended local schools. Muriel married Earl Oaks, Sr. in Palmyra, Missouri on February 7, 1942. He preceded her on June 25, 1989. Muriel was a homemaker in her own home and a member of Biggsville United Methodist Church in Biggsville, Illinois. Muriel was most devoted to her two daughters, Kay and April and to her whole family.

She is survived by her daughters, Kay Oaks of Monmouth, Illinois and April Dowell and Bill, also of Monmouth. Muriel has three granddaughters surviving, Shaila Ayer of Jacksonville, IL, Brenda Close and Greg of Reynolds, IL, and Payton Dowell of Galesburg, IL. One grandson survives her, Jason Oaks of Monmouth, Illinois. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband Earl, Sr., sons Earl, Jr. and Les Oaks, grandson Dennis and her sister, Betty.

A private family graveside service is being planned at the Biggsville Township Cemetery in Biggsville, Illinois. Friends may call and sign the registry at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth all day on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. At 2:30 PM on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Muriel’s family plans a Celebration of Her Life at the Biggsville Community Building. A memorial fund is being established for either Biggsville United Methodist Church or Henderson County Humane Society.
