Each year, Illinois 4-H celebrates the hard work and dedication of volunteers throughout the state with the 4-H Hall of Fame Award. This year Vicky Keever was chosen as the recipient of the Henderson County 4-H Hall of Fame Award. Keever has been involved in 4-H for around 60 years, joining the organization when she was 9 years old.

“We had cattle, we had sheep, and I learned at a young age how to do reports and get up in the mornings before school and take care of my animals. I also was a member of the Healthy, Happy Workers, which was our home ec projects where I learned to cook and sew and do that kind of fun stuff. I think my family ate lots of muffins over the years, learning that recipe to try to get it made without holes in it” says Keever. “But getting ready for the fair every year was a highlight. And like I said, I have enjoyed just working in the office and working in the buildings with all the young people and I wish we could see more and more kids get involved. My grandkids are just now coming of age and hoping that we can watch them show and continue the traditions.”

Even after her 4-H years, Keever has stayed involved in 4-H, serving as both a leader and co-leader.
