Mrs. Edna Ruth Curry, 96, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the Hawthorne Inn assisted living facility in Galesburg.
She was born September 27, 1928, in St. Francisville, Missouri to Emmett and Lois H. (Atterberry) Wayland. She married Harry Tenhaaf in June of 1946, in Burlington, Iowa. She later married William Curry in December of 1979, in Knox County. He preceded her in death on October 3, 2015.
Surviving is a son, Douglas (and Vicki) Tenhaaf of Galesburg, a daughter, Linda K. Spence of Galesburg, and several grand and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Steven Tenhaaf on August 29, 2007, two brothers, Steve Wayland and Paul Wayland, and two sisters, Jolivia Travelstead and Rose Mary Ebel.
Edna graduated from Burlington High School in 1946. She was a real estate broker in the Galesburg area and owned and operated Home Realty for several years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg. She enjoyed dancing with her first husband, Harry. When they walked onto the dance floor, everyone would clear the floor to watch them dance. She loved spending time with her family, especially the times they would go roller skating in their red sweaters.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating. The burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.
