Defense a Main Key to Picking Up Win Over Sherrard for Monmouth-Roseville Titan Boys’ Basketball

The (10-8) Monmouth-Roseville Titans Boys’ Basketball club look to get back in the win column tonight as they host their TRAC West Division rivals the Sherrard Tigers at the Shoebox at Monmouth-Roseville High School. With some important matchups on the horizon in the second half of the season, the Titans will work to keep the momentum going and continue to use their defensive efforts to battle tonight ahead of a week’s break from games, says Head Coach Chuck Grant:

“We’ve got our work cut out for us. Sherrard is a nice club. They are (14-2). They are pretty athletic, and they are long. They pressure the ball very well and that is one of the things we are going to have to really do well tonight, we have to take care of the basketball. They have some athletes in the halfcourt offense that can make plays; very similar to what we had to do with UT, we have to make sure that we don’t give them the bounce to the rim consistently because they like to cut and gut you. We have to defend well tonight, but we are defending well and getting better defensively. That is one of the things we have talked with the team that we want to get to the point where we are potentially a regional championship team that we have to get better defensively, and we are definitely taking steps in the right direction. It is important to play well every night, but we are in a stretch right now where we are playing some pretty solid teams consistently. It is important for us to play well, not only to get a win, but we have to get it going with these teams to get ourselves better.”

Tonight’s TRAC West Division matchup with the Monmouth-Roseville Titans and Sherrard Tigers can be heard on Sunny 97.7 WMOI and online at radiomonmouth.com with the pregame show at 6:40 and tip-off set for 7 pm.
