Mrs. Doris June (Neally) Streight, 103, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on January 5, 2025, at 7:56 a.m. at Marigold Health Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois.
She was born on October 20, 1921, to Walter Neally and Bertie June (Beck) Neally in Bonaparte, Iowa. She married Delmar Streight on May 22, 1940, in Fort Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 5, 2006.
Doris worked at Gambles in Monmouth, Illinois for 15 years and later worked at Monmouth College as a secretary for 16 years. Doris was an avid reader up until her eyesight failed. She enjoyed her family and all of her great grandchildren. She enjoyed watching cooking shows, going out to eat with family, and had a love for any chocolate candies. She resided with her daughter-in-law, Shirley, for 18 years before moving into the nursing home in January of 2024.
She was a member of Immanual Baptist Church in Monmouth. She later attended the First Church of the Nazarene until her hearing and vision had failed her. After moving into the nursing home, she enjoyed visits with the Hospice Compassus staff, especially visits with Chaplain Jordan Knight.
Doris is survived by two daughters-in-law; Karen Streight of Chatham, Illinois and Shirley Streight of Galesburg, four grandchildren; Micah Streight of Chatham, Jeremy (and Brooke) Streight of Kingston, Pennsylvania, Bethany (and Paul) Woods of St. Jacob, Illinois, and Krista (and Richard) Tran of Galesburg; eleven great grandchildren, Rebecca, Nelson, Lydia, Joshua, Jeremiah, Josiah, Nathaniel, Kayla, Benjamin, Zechariah, and Eva, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delmar, two sons, Michael and Bill Streight; three sisters, Norma (and Bud) Blystone, Esther (and Dick) Knapp, and Hazel Neally; one brother Lloyd Neally, two brothers-in-law; and two nieces, Connie (and Doug) Ball and Judy Forrer.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Marigold Health Care Center and to the staff of Hospice Compassus for taking such good care of her.
Cremation will be accorded. A private committal service will be held at a later date at the Monmouth City Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel will be assisting with services. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus or Galesburg Rescue Mission.
