Florence O. “Flo” Johnson, 94, of Galesburg, died at 10:13 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, in Allure of Knox County.

She was born December 17, 1930, in Yates City, the daughter of Ross and Helen (Ashbaugh) Garman. She married Donald R. “Luke” Johnson on May 12, 1950, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2006, after nearly 56 years of marriage.

She is survived by sons, Robert (Brenda) Johnson of Houston, Texas and Greg “Peach” Johnson of Galesburg; grandchildren, Dylan (Demi) Johnson and Megan Johnson; great grandchildren, Maeve and Hallie; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Robert “Slick”, Maurice “Pete”, Wallace “Wally”, Dale, and Lawrence “Larry” Garman, Juanita Stevens, and Doris Luallen; and daughter-in-law, Diedra, in 2002.

Flo had worked for Admiral for five years, Doctors Contro and Claman for a time, the cafeteria at Churchill Junior High School, and then in medical records at Cottage Hospital for over 20 years. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1948. Flo was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling with her team winning a state championship, golfing, and playing softball, where she played for the Chicago Bloomer Girls and McCabe Scrap Iron. Flo and her sister, Doris, volunteered at Heartland Health Care Center for many years. Flo also enjoyed cooking and will be remembered as being a supportive mom for her sons and their friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Allure and of OSF Hospice for their loving care for Flo.

Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services of Galesburg. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the chapel with Deacon Michael Crummer officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral with burial in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church.
