On October 15, 2018, the NCAA launched the Transfer Portal. The Transfer Portal is an online data base, where players submit an application with the intent to transfer to a new school. The online data base is visible to coaches, administrators, and compliance officials. Now that you know what the Transfer Portal is. University of Wisconsin Defensive Lineman Charles Perkins, shares his experience in the Transfer Portal.
The number of players in the transfer portal has been on the rise every year. In 2022, 1,946 FBS scholarship players entered the Portal. 2023 saw 2,303 players enter. This season over 2,700 scholarship players entered the Portal. Across all NCAA divisions, over 11,000 football players entered the portal.
