Andrew John “Andy” Peterson, age 47, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 7:24 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at his home.  He was born February 12, 1978 in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of Greg and Sandra Brewster Peterson.  On June 19, 1998, he married Elizabeth Anne Greig .  

Andy was a veteran of the United States Army.  He served from 1998 through 2006 and saw two combat duty tours in Iraq and one in Bosnia.  He received his Associate Degree from Carl Sandburg College.  For the past fifteen years, he was employed as a draftsman for the Oquawka Boat Company, and considered everyone there as his second family.

He was an avid motorcyclist, and loved riding his BMW.  He also enjoyed shooting at the Tac Shack shooting range in Monmouth, and making things on his 3-D printer. He had recently taken up leatherworking.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Beth, three sons, Aiden (Kendra) Peterson of Norfolk, VA, Lucas Peterson and Gavin Peterson, both of Galesburg, IL, his parents, Greg and Sandra Peterson of Coal Valley, IL, his in-laws, David and Renee Grieg of Galesburg, IL, one sister, Amber Peterson of Paducah, KY, and his special family at Oquawka Boats.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025 in the Oquawka Cemetery, with Pastor Randy Koch officiating.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to assist the family with expenses.  Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Stronghurst is assisting the family.  Please visit Andy’s obituary at banksandbeals.com to leave a condolence.
