While farmers in west-central Illinois enjoyed a fast and smooth planting season, some did need to go back and get some replanting done. Michael Moore, Country Financial Agent shares that replanting was needed on some local soybean fields.
“What we found was that beans that were planted on April 28th and 29th got a pretty heavy rain on April 30th and May 1st and, and certain soil types, they sealed over and just beans just couldn’t pop through there broke the necks off of the beans and oh was probably averaging about 50,000 population, which isn’t enough,” says Moor. “So did have oh 800,000 acres of replant for beans, and what I’ve heard is all of those are already replanted and all the beans are up and looking pretty good.”
As fields continue to grow across west-central Illinois, growers are now turning their focus to crop management and hoping for cooperative weather in the weeks ahead.
